Brassil impresses to secure progress at UIPM Pentathlon World Cup Budapest
Sive Brassil secured safe progress through to the semi-finals of the second World Cup of the Modern Pentathlon season with a superb all-round performance in Hungary on Wednesday afternoon.
Brassil had travelled to this week’s UIPM 2022 World Cup Budapest aiming for an improvement on her first outing of the season in Cairo last month and the 28-year-old was true to her word as she finished 14th in her qualification group.
Brassil’s total of 1044 points was a jump on her score in the Egyptian capital and was enough to see her join the group of 36 who progress to Friday’s semi-finals.
The Galway native had specifically targeted a better performance on the piste in Budapest and will have been particularly please with her 16 victories in the Fencing round, placing her 11th of the 30 competitors in her qualification group. She followed that up with a solid swim, where she was 11th fastest before coming in 14th fastest in the Laser Run.
Brassil’s compatriot Hanna D’Aughton was making her senior World Cup debut in Budapest and the young Cork native will have been pleased with a strong performance in the pool before the step up in competition took a toll in a tough Laser Run, D’Aughton finishing 30th overall in the qualification group.
UIPM 2022 World Cup Budapest runs until Sunday May 1, with Brassil next in action on Friday, April 29 in Women’s semi-final A.
