High Performance

Our high performance squad is set up to support our pentathletes to do their very best. The end goal will be to put on that green vest and compete for Ireland on the world stage.

The Pentathlon Ireland High Performance Programme (HPP) is funded by Sport Ireland.

High Performance programme squads

Pentathlon Ireland HPP has a three-tiered squad system which aims to aid the long term development of High Performance Athletes.

Beginners

“Training to Train”

This is a squad of athletes who are new to the sport of Modern Pentathlon. This squad will be trained in fencing, shooting, swimming, running and obstacles. The athletes in this squad will be encouraged to compete in the various disciplines aiming to compete in full pentathlon competitions when they are ready.

Development Squad

“Training to Compete”

Our Youth Squad is made up of athletes who have graduated from the Beginners squad and who are ready to start competing in full pentathlon competitions at home and abroad.

Senior Squad

“Training to Win”

This squad of athletes trains and prepers for International competitions focussing on European and World Championships and eventually UIPM World Cup Series. These athletes are a closely-knit team of exceptional athletes, each driven by the shared ambition of securing a spot at the Los Angeles Olympics. This diverse group, hailing from various parts of Ireland, exemplifies the true essence of modern pentathlon – a demanding combination of swimming, fencing, obstacle racing, running, and shooting. Their daily training regimens, filled with relentless dedication, not only showcase their individual talents but also reflect their collective goal of competing on the global stage.
