Ireland’s Sive Brassil got her World Cup season off on the right note on Tuesday as the Galway native made it safely through to the semi-finals of the UIPM Pentathlon World Cup Cairo.
The 28-year-old finished 11th in her qualification group with 1,035 points, placing her comfortably within the top 36 who progressed through to Thursday’s Women’s semi-finals in the Egyptian capital.
This week’s event in Cairo is not just the first World Cup of the new year but this season is also the first to take place under Modern Pentathlon’s intensive new format, which UIPM has created for the Paris 2024 Olympics. It includes elimination at each stage to leave just 18 athletes making the individual finals.
Brassil’s teammate Kate Coleman-Lenehan unfortunately missed out on progress through to the semi-finals as she finished 27th in her qualification group with 949 points.
