Natalya 9th at Olympics – Arthur 25th !!!

The last two days of the London Olympics have been very exciting for the sport of Modern Pentathlon in Ireland with two young and extremely talented athletes who must be extremely proud of what they have achieved. This was their first Olympics and bearing in mind what we saw it will not be their last. Natalya and Arthur are in their early twenties and will be peaking in their sport when the Olympics are held in 2016.

Lithuania took Gold followed by Britain’s Samantha Murray in the silver medal position and Brazil with Bronze.  Natalya jumped up a place in the combined to take 9th place. The day started well with Coyle taking a well deserved 11th place in the fencing and a PB in the 200m swim(2:19.17) and a brilliant 5th in the Show jumping with only two poles down. Coyle ran a fantastic race to take 9th place overall. a top twenty finish would have beengood but to finish 9th in the world is unbelieveable for an athlete who is only in  the sport 3 years.  Elen Rublevska ,who finished just 8 points(2 secs) ahead of 21 year old Natalya, has been at all 4 previous Olympic games competing at Modern Pentathlon. The Women’s competition has only been in the Olympics since 2000.  This shows what a feat this was for the young Meath woman and what a massive future she has.  Any young wannabe Pentathlete out there can join by filling in the Membership form by clicking on this link PI membership 2012 or click on  the membership tab above
